BioImaging-GR BRFAA

“A Greek Research Infrastructure for Visualising and Monitoring Fundamental Biological Processes”

BioImaging-GR aims to create a strongly interlinked and geographically distributed infrastructure for general-access, high-end biological imaging providing a range of imaging methods to scientists, SMEs and enterprises in Greece and neighboring countries. It includes 21 partner Research Institutes and University Departments interlinked via a central coordinating Hub (FORTH), serving as a single point of entry to the national infrastructure, and distributed partner Nodes that provide access to state-of-the-art instrumentation and services.  Finally, BioImaging-GR is within the framework of Euro-BioImaging, the associated pan-European ESFRI Research Infrastructure (www.eurobioimaging.eu).

BioImaging-GR, is pursuing the following goals:

  1. Expand existing and establish new BioImaging facilities, such as next-generation fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy (conventional TEM and SEM, as well as CLEM), PET, Micro-CT, fMRI, intravital imaging, micro-fluidics, ratio-metric imaging, super-resolution microscopy and others.
  2. Provide training and imaging services.
  3. Coordinate existing facilities, which operate at different centers, towards maximum complementarity and minimum redundancy.

BRFAA’s role

Dissemination activities within BIOIMAGING-GR

Networking activities within BIOIMAGING-GR

BRFAA’s role is to provide nationwide access to:

  • general microscopy techniques (Widefield, deconvolution and confocal microscopy)
  • specialised high end systems such as structured illumination and live cell imaging and finally
  • specialist personnel (microscopists and Image Analysts)

The benefits for BRFAA will not only be limited to the upgrade of its infrastructure (confocals, data servers, computers) and the installation of new microscopy techniques to improve offered services.  It will acquire new expertise, relevant to biomedical imaging, through new recruitment and the training of resident personnel to the new instrumentation and the instrumentation of the collaborating partners within the RI via dedicated collaborating funding. Furthermore, BRFAA will establish collaborations with the corresponding European RI, Euro-Bioimaging.  By modernizing its infrastructure and acquiring or generating the necessary expertise,  BRFAA can maintain a competitive position in the field of Biomedical research.

BIU, as part of the Bioimaging-GR Network,  is organising a mini-workshop on the IMARIS Image Analysis Software.

The recent  developments will be presented in the morning by Dr. Georgia Golfis, application Specialist  with Bitplane.

In the afternoon there will be short hands-on sessions where Imaris users can get feedback on the software and discuss with the specialist the problems they are facing with Imaris.

If you want to book a slot, please send us an e-mail (biu@bioacademy.gr) with a short description of the the type of analysis you are pursuing and the specific problem you are facing.
