Research Highlights :Gender-specific transcriptional profiles identified in β-thalassemia patients

Eleni Katsantoni and colleagues recently published a paper in Haematologica

This study aimed to ascertain the differences in the transcriptional profiles of thalassemia patients, to understand erythropoietic circuits and to identify targets for stratification. RNA-seq analysis showed that males and females are affected in distinctive ways by the disease, highlighting the need to consider gender as an important variable for developing differential diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
