Brief Bio

Constantinos Anagnostopoulos M.D, Ph.D, FRCP, FRCR, FESC is a Nuclear Medicine Physician, Faculty member of BRFAA and Research Director at the Center for Clinical Research, Experimental Surgery, and Translational Research.  Dr Anagnostopoulos received his Medical Degree (M.D) from the University of Thessaloniki in 1985.  He trained in Nuclear Medicine at the Theagenio Hospital of Thessaloniki and completed his post-graduate training at the Royal Marsden and Royal Brompton Hospitals in England and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, US. During his post-graduate training he acquired expertise in Nuclear Cardiology and hybrid imaging.

He received his Certificate for Completion of Specialist Training (CCST), London UK, in 1996 and his Ph.D from the University of Athens in the same year after completing a joint research program between the latter and the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London UK.  He has been awarded the Fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) in 2000, and also the Fellowships of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) and the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2003 and 2006 respectively.

Dr Anagnostopoulos is Councillor of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), European Society of Cardiology and also a member of its Research and Innovation Committee, as well as the Education Committee.  He is currently the Chairman of the working group of non invasive cardiac imaging of the Hellenic Society of Cardiology. He has served as President of the British Nuclear Cardiology Society and Council member both of the British Cardiovascular Society and the British Nuclear Medicine Society (2002 and 2003) and also of the European Society of Cardiology working group in Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiac CT (2002-2010).  He is member of the editorial board of leading specialty journals and he has also served as Guest Editor of HEART. He is chair and member of UK and European Guidelines Committees respectively and also book editor (Non Invasive Imaging of Myocardial Ischemia, Springer) and leading author or co-author of numerous book chapters and research papers.

Dr Anagnostopoulos has an extensive range of national and international teaching activities. His research interests focus on cardiovascular imaging and pursues these, through collaboration with a number of National and European centres.  He is principle investigator or co-investigator in a number of studies as well as co-applicant in the FP-7 funded EVINCI (Evaluation of Integrated Cardiac Imaging for the Detection and Characterization of Ischemic Heart Disease-the EVINCI) project and partner representing BRFAA both in the PmedGR and the Infrafrontier-GR programs.  His pioneering work on comparative assessment of left ventricular function by novel radionuclide techniques and Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR), heart failure imaging, and absolute perfusion quantification using PET has been cited extensively in the literature.
