The Biomedical Research Foundation Academy of Athens (BRFAA) is proud to announce that Dr. Themis Alissafi, University Faculty - Affiliated Researcher, has been selected for the latest round of the European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept grants.

Bridging the Gap from Lab to Market

Dr. Alissafi is among the select group of grantees supported to turn science into practice as part of the ERC’s 2025 funding cycle. Each Proof of Concept grant is designed to bridge the gap between pioneering frontier research and its early-stage commercial or societal application.

Innovation in Biomedicine

This funding allows Dr. Alissafi to explore the innovation potential of her previous ERC-funded discoveries. By focusing on the transition from fundamental research to practical implementation, MetaReg aims to  explore how mechanistic targeting of the safeguards of our immune system, namely regulatory T cells, can enable next-gen therapy in cancer without the risk of autoimmune toxicities, bringing transformative biomedical solutions closer to patients and the broader healthcare market.
