Integrating –omics to understand disease pathophysiology

Ample molecular data exist describing various disease phenotypes. However, this knowledge has not been translated yet into better biomarkers and therapeutic targets. With a special focus on bladder cancer and renal and cardiovascular disease, we apply state of the art proteomics technologies to characterize in detail protein changes associated with disease phenotypes.  This includes analysis at protein expression and modification (phosphorylation, cysteine oxidation) levels using shot gun approaches, as well as targeted protein quantification through multiple reaction monitoring mass spectrometry. Through an expanded network of collaborations, we further integrate existing and newly collected data, using Systems Biology tools, in a “holistic” manner to unveil molecular pathways underlying disease. This approach will be the foundation of novel biology-driven therapeutic and diagnostic approaches.
