The proper care and use of animals used in biomedical research is of high concern to the scientific community and to society. This concern is mainly addressed through specific legal requirements, scientific guidelines and of course the promotion of the 3Rs Concept of Russell and Burch for Replacement of the use of animals, Reduction of the numbers of animals used and Refinement of experimental techniques and housing conditions.

Deeply influenced by the 3Rs Concept, our scientific interests focus on the development and promotion of techniques and methods that may refine housing conditions (mainly through the evaluation, development and implementation of environmental enrichment policies as well as the implementation of refined experimental techniques).
