Expression of Interest for Postdoctoral Research at the Laboratory of Cell and Gene Therapy of the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (IIBEAA)


BRFAA is interested in employing two Post-doctoral Fellows for the Research Program E-Rare entitled Improvements of vector technology and safety for the gene therapy of thalassemia (Grant No. 11E-RARE-09-155). The positions are funded by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sport and the EU.

The aim of the Project is the development of gene transfer and gene therapy technology for the improvement of safety of viral vectors for the clinical application of gene therapy for thalassemia.

Successful candidates should have a degree on Biological Sciences or Chemistry or Biochemistry or Molecular Biology and a PhD degree in the fields of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Cell Biology. Candidates should have an extensive experience in the technologies of viral vectors and gene transfer and in the handling and transduction of human and mouse hemopoietic stem cells.

The duration of the position is for 12 months with the possibility of extension for up to 36 months.
