Call of interest for two (2) post-doctoral positions at the Centre for Immunology & Transplantations, of the Biomedical Research Foundation Academy of Athens (BRFAA)

BRFAA is interested in employing two post-doctoral fellows (maximum duration 24 months) for a research programme entitled “Development of innovative therapeutic and prognostic strategies for the treatment of sepsis and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome based on the study of Activin-A”. The positions are funded by the “Greek Ministry of Education” in the context of the “SYNERGASIA” grant program. The program involves collaboration among BRFAA, the Medical School of Athens, the Medical school of Helsinki and the pharmaceutical company “Pharmaten”. Aim of the study is to clarify the mechanisms that link Activin-A to homeostasis, inflammation and tissue remodelling in the pulmonary system and utilise the acquired knowledge to design therapies for sepsis and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. The program is based on findings described in: Apostolou et al. Am J Respir Crit Care Med. 2012. 185: 382-91; Editorial in: Am J Respir Crit Care Med. 2012. 185:350-2.

Τhe candidates should have a PhD in Biology/Immunology or related fields, and proven expertise in the development and characterisation of animal models of disease and immunological phenotyping. Good knowledge of Immunology and experience in animal models for sepsis, inflammation, respiratory diseases or the motivated and able to work both independently and within a highly interactive group.
