Brief Bio

Anastasios (Tasos) Gaitanis holds a degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology from the TEI of Athens and a postgraduate degree (MSc) in Medical Physics from the University of Surrey, UK. He also holds a doctoral degree (PhD) in Medical Physics from the University of Patras, Greece. The title of his doctoral thesis is "Development of stopping rules for the MLEM and OSEM algorithms used in PET image reconstruction". As a researcher he has worked in Greek and international research programs and has taught courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Previously, he held the position of the Head of the Biomedical Technology Department of BRFAA. Since May 2014 he is Research Scientist in laboratory of preclinical imaging PET/CT of BRFAA .

Dr Tasos Gaitanis working in the field of medical tomographic imaging since 2003. In the beginning, he dealt with computed tomography (CT) dedicated on breast imaging. His involvement with Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging is since 2005. His doctoral thesis focused on developing of stopping rules for the iterative algorithms used in PET image reconstruction. Currently, apart from the PET image reconstruction, deals with computational intelligence systems in PET, as well as issues of quantification in PET imaging.
