Brief Bio

Dr. Vlahakos obtained his M.D. degree from the University of Athens Medical School in 1978 and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Patras Medical School. His postdoctoral training was from 1982 till 1990 at Boston, in Boston University School of Medicine as a Research Fellow in Hypertension, in Tufts University School of Medicine as Instructor of Medicine and in Harvard University School of Medicine as a Research Fellow in Immunogenetics and Transplantation. He has served as a faculty at the Medical Schools of the University of Patras and University of Athens and from 2013 he is a Full Professor of Medicine and Nephrology at the Medical School of the University of Athens. From 1995 till 2000 he has served as Director of Nephrology and Hypertension at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Athens and from 2003 he is the Director of the Renal Unit, B' Propaideutic Clinic of Internal Medicine at Attikon University Hospital in Athens. His research focuses on several aspects of Nephrology with emphasis on the renal contribution in hypertension. In this field he has published in high visibility journals and holds several patents regarding therapeutic interventions.
