The Unit offers competences in histology and performs routine work like sectioning of tissues or stains for researchers. In addition it can provide consultation on protocol set up and phenotype interpretation.

Services Available

Tissue Processing & Embedding:
protocols and advice on tissue processing, fixation and embedding orientation.

Sectioning:
Performance of microtome, cryotome and vibratome tissue sectioning; training in the above instruments by the Unit technician upon request; support of fresh tissue vibratome sectioning under a specific 5%CO2-95%O2 atmosphere.

STAINS:
Routine H&E Staining

Special Stains (currently available):

Additional stains can be also set up and applied depending on request and demands

Consultation

The Unit assists the setting up and optimizing of histological approaches, delivering protocols that can be tested either by the researchers themselves, the laboratory technicians or both. In addition, consultation on interpretation of phenotype in specific pathologies can be provided by our collaborator in the University of Athens Prof. S. Tseleni-Balafouta
