ERC President Maria Leptin to Visit BRFAA on 20 October 2026

Athens, 20 October 2026 | Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens

The Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA) is pleased to welcome Professor Maria Leptin, President of the European Research Council (ERC), on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, for a special event entitled “Strengthening Greece’s Participation in the ERC.”

The event will bring together representatives of the ERC, members of the Greek research and academic community, ERC grantees, and national stakeholders to explore opportunities for strengthening Greece’s participation and success in Europe's leading frontier research funding programme.

Discussions will focus on the evolution of Greek participation in the ERC, upcoming changes to the 2027 ERC calls, available support mechanisms for prospective applicants, and the experiences of Greek ERC grantees. Particular emphasis will be placed on the impact of ERC funding on scientific careers, research excellence, and the development of competitive research environments in Greece.

Professor Themis Alissafi, ERC Ambassador for Greece, will coordinate the event, contributing to the broader discussion on how to create an environment that enables researchers based in Greece to compete successfully at the European level.

The event is jointly organized by the European Research Council (ERC), the Academy of Athens, and the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA), with the support of PRAXI Network, the National Contact Point for Horizon Europe, and under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI).

Members of the Greek research and academic community are warmly invited to attend.
