The European Network FP7-NEURINOX high school outreach event entitled “Biosciences: Open your mind – Change your world”, is organized in the context of the Knowledge Dissemination Work-package by partners National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (4th Department of Internal Medicine-Despina Sanoudou) and Biomedical Research Foundation Academy of Athens (Proteomics Unit-Antonia Vlachou).

During their 5 hour visit at the premises of the BRFAA the students are exposed to the world of biosciences/neurosciences, through scientific lectures, discussions, laboratory visits, demonstrations of experiments, use of microscopes/stereoscopes, interactive games, motivational talks and researchers’ life stories.

•  >600 high-school students and >65 teachers attended in 2015-2016
•  >25 schools from the northern/central/southern/western/eastern Athens areas, Pireaus, Chalkida, Lamia, and Thiva
•  9 interactive stations with experiments and workshops are set up
•  >45 researchers and educators contribute to the event organization and implementation

Event goals for the students:

•  to get inspired
•  to experience how innovative research is conducted
•  to understand the molecular basis of neurodegenerative diseases and the research approach to address them
•  to interact with the researchers
•  to discover new career prospects and to broaden their perspective
•  to trigger their creative curiosity
