The terms Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, even if attempts have been made to distinguish them slightly, more often than not are used interchangeably.
A common denominator in the above mentioned fields is the use of tools to extract meaningful information from data produced by high-throughput techniques such as micro-arrays and/or mass spectrometry.

We develop methods, algorithms and theoretical models, to solve problems posed and inspired from the management and analysis of biomedical data.
We are interested in hypothesis-driven investigations of specific biological problems using computers. Close collaboration with several groups both within BRF, and outside as well as hospitals, enable us to have immediate access to "real" data.
Our
Team is part of the Division of Biotechnology at the Biomedical Research Foundation (BRF) of the Academy of Athens.
