Clinical Research Center
Director: Prof. Harisios Boudoulas, MD, PhD

Cardiovascular, Hematology/Oncology, Endocrinology/Metabolism, and Nuclear Medicine, including Positron Emission Tomography laboratories, are included in the Clinical Research Center. Close collaborations among those laboratories as well as between the Clinical Research Center, Basic Research Center, Experimental Surgery Center and major Hospitals in Greece are emphasized.

Translational research which will bridge the gap between basic and clinical research is one of the primary objectives of the Center. Clinical investigators and basic scientists work very closely together, where findings from the laboratory bench can be applied to the clinic and observations from the bedside can be tested in the basic research and/or experimental surgery laboratories. Genetic variations in common diseases (eg. atherosclerosis, arterial hypertension, diabetes, hematologic disorders, other) in the Greek population will be defined and pharmacogenetics/pharmacogenomics will be applied in the near future.

It is within the Clinical Research Center that the next generation of the physician/scientist will be developed focusing on translational research.
